Why this petition matters
Police brutality has been a problem in the United States forever and has never truly been fixed. Not only has this problem been ignored for years, it has proven time and time again that the brutality undeniably targets people of color. So not only is it a systematic problem, it is a racism problem down to the first southern police forces who were put in place to be slave catchers. So ridding the virus that is the backbone of all current police forces won’t be easy. But since the civil rights movement, to Rodney King, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, and thousands of other cases where police officers and departments were never held accountable for their actions. After all these cases here we are again demanding change after the horrific murder of George Floyd. Protests have broken out in all 50 states and many other countries as well. The people are looking for answers to what needs to be changed systematically to make sure something like this NEVER happens again. I may not have all the answers but I believe that to get something done you have to tackle it from the core. So i’m proposing that every time that a police officer is brought to court on misconduct issues they should have to pay all fees out of their own pensions and not the tax payers money. If they don’t like it then they are the problem. Don’t want to lose your pensions? Don’t abuse your power. Look, I know this is just a small bandaid on a system that’s cracked in a disappointingly large way. But SOMETHING has to be done. The people, especially our black and minority communities, shouldn’t have to live in fear of our “protectors”. So please sign. We need a change.
