300 Centre Members of the local community will be deprived from using its gym and pool facilities as of 1st September 2021. The Sports Centre has been part of the Community for many decades. It was set up following the award of a lottery grant in 1996. This required community access for 20 years; thus, after having increased its assets, the College seems to be of the opinion that members are not needed anymore.

Alternative facilities –which are already oversubscribed– would require private or public transport, something not all the present ELSC members can take advantage of. The headmaster’s suggested solutions require a long travel that will further damage the environment. Moreover, the College's new offer of about 2 hours per week during the weekend is just insult to injury.

At the moment, it is not clear whether the gym and pool will be open in the morning. 

Depriving people in the village and surrounding areas from using the facilities will affect their mental, physical and social wellbeing at a time when the Government are urging people to look after their health in order to reduce the increasing pressure on health care and social services. Closing this type of service is contrary to government targets.
