Hailey Roberts started this petition to Elon Musk

Elon musk is trying to launch 42,000 satellites into space for “better internet” which will cause so much light pollution that astronomical images will be useless, we won’t be able to see the stars, astronomers won’t be able to study, and there would be an increased risk of space collisions. He is releasing these satellites to create a new network called starlink. If 5% of star links satellites broke down which they only have a lifespan of 5-7 years they would add many thousands of fragments of space debris to the 20,000 already under surveillance. If he ends up doing this the stars may no longer be visible for the next generation and it will all just be a legend from long ago. Elon Musk promised in a tweet that Starlink wouldn't "inhibit new discoveries or change the character of the night sky." His assurances haven't assuaged the community's fears, and a legal paper due for publication later this year argues that the FCC's approval of Starlink's plans broke environmental law. The video you see is how visible star links satellites already are from space. Maybe the deciding factor to stopping this is a petition of people who do not want the stars to go away.
