Build a Hyperloop to connect Mobile, Ala. and New Orleans

The cities of Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana share a common history and heritage almost as old as this country and the Gulf Coast is the perfect testing ground for one of the nation’s first fully-functioning Hyperloops. The most obvious reasons are, the region is not nearly as population dense as either East or West coasts and regulations for development are generally much more relaxed. Additionally, both cities (and Biloxi, MS) have tried unsuccessfully to restart the gulf coast Amtrack route a number of times since it closed after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The demand for another form of transportation between these places, besides the frequently clogged interstate, is high but a lack of federal and state funding has stalled every effort.
For generations the people of New Orleans have traveled to Mobile to take advantage of the Alabama coast’s beautiful white sand beaches and the residents of the Mobile area regularly journey to New Orleans to enjoy everything the Big Easy has to offer. With each passing year however the traffic on Interstate 10 which connects them grows increasingly tedious, totally inefficient and dangerous.
Besides the public enthusiasm, both cities are major international ports with tons of commerce moving between them. So the opportunity to make cargo transportation more efficient is possibly enough reason by itself for industries to get on board with the Hyperloop infrastructure. Also in the years ahead once this test route has proved successful it could be extended to connect to Houston, Miami, Atlanta and beyond. A Hyperloop would be an enormous booster shot to the Gulf Coast’s economy, as well as the entire Southeast US eventually.
We invite you to come down, take a look for yourself, speak to our local leaders and residents. While you’re at it, enjoy some great seafood and the sights and sounds of these two historic cities. We are confident you’ll recognize the incredible potential for building a Hyperloop here on the Gulf Coast between Mobile and New Orleans!
