Why this petition matters

America has long thrived on the principles of freedom. Those freedoms including freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of association.

In the 21st century, social media giants Facebook and Twitter represent the modern version of the public square. These corporations are private (though publicly traded) but they function as an oligopoly and are in many aspects more powerful than any government.

Big Tech and the Democratic Party share core political values, which by itself is not a problem. At issue is the willingness of Big Tech to shame, censor, and demonetize those holding opposing viewpoints, which may range anywhere from 40% to 60% of the country. Big Tech companies are colluding in this effort with increasing frequency. While suspensions and bannings gather the most attention, behind-the-scenes efforts to involve credit card companies and website hosts to take out competitors are highly troubling.

It is debatable whether the federal government ought to take antitrust action against these companies, as well as other Big Tech actors. But it is also a moot point. The culmination of the 2020 elections and the outcome of a united Democratic government render it so.

As such, tens of millions of Americans (if not more) are left desperate for a platform where they can say what they want to whom they want, without a chilling effect looming over their dialogue.

Our plea is to Mr. Elon Musk, recently announced as the richest man in the world, to engage in a profitable endeavor that would also leave a legacy he can be proud of. We are asking Mr. Musk to consider putting his resources behind a social media platform that will be a user-friendly haven for free expression. Not just for Republicans, but for all Americans.

We are not asking for an act of charity. On the contrary, we are prospective customers and business partners identifying an opportunity and asking you to meet our needs. What you did to NASA and the Big 3, you can also do to Facebook and Twitter.

Mr. Musk, you understand the corrosive consequences of one-party rule, as surely that influenced your exit from California. You have seen as Big Tech has colluded to smash dissenting views (such as your own) on the pandemic. You are well known for opposing Facebook and endorsing the #DeleteFacebook campaign. Given your heterodox views, it may be a matter of time before you suffer the same fate on Twitter that many others are facing.

Now is the time to strike while the iron is hot. America would be a grateful nation.

Thank You for your consideration.
