Save the East End Park Playground

The residents and visitors of East End Park are requesting the low-cost retention of the current playground in addition to the new site. The current playground location has been part of the Elmhurst community for many decades, and serves a key and vital function for the neighborhood surrounding it and to the entire town. For those of us who live in the East End park neighborhood, it provides a source of recreation and connection that serves as a positive balance to the expressway that borders us to the east. It adds significant value to current owners and prospective buyers that will effectively be taken away if it were removed.
Additionally, being located on a non-through street makes the park a safe option for children and families living in the area surrounding East End. While the new playground’s facilities and location may provide more variety and updated equipment, for those who have concerns about traffic on Caroline and 3rd Street, especially during sporting events and open hours for East End pool, the current playground location is a significantly preferable option. For families who visit East End pool it also serves as a convenient alternative for siblings during swim classes, or before and after their visit to the pool.
We therefore request the low-cost retention of the current site as a safe, convenient and highly valued option to retain, in addition to the new playground site, for neighborhood residents and visitors to East End park.
