Why this petition matters

Started by Arianne Allam

As a care worker myself, I have seen how covid 19 has affected my work colleagues & other carers around the country, lack of PPE, lack of guidelines, lack of support and lack of funding. It’s hard not to feel like care workers are second class citizens. I mean it’s hard to deny after seeing all of the news reports and seeing it unravel in front of you. This  unfortunately meant That innocent care workers and their families lost their lives. I myself wasn’t eligible for Furlough even though I have a vulnerable father that I live with, I still had to go into work and risk his life. We have been forgotten by the system time and time again but no more. If this pandemic tells you anything it is that Home Care workers, domiciliary Care workers and live in care workers  keep this country going. An increase In care workers' wages, with the Real Living Wage £9.30 an hour or £10.75 an hour in London as the minimum is the least we deserve. But also it is important to look at other issues that I will fight for like An improvement in care workers' terms and conditions: ensure they have adequate PPE, end 15 minute visits and zero hours contracts, ensure they get paid for travel time and all care workers qualify for Statutory Sick Pay
