ELLE’s lack of sensitivity is appalling. Chronic migraine is a debilitating DISEASE. It is not trendy or glamorous. While my friends are getting Botox for cosmetic reasons, I get 31 shots of Botox injected into my skull, neck and shoulders every 12 weeks just to be able to leave my house. I put myself through UCLA and was ‘fast tracking’ it in my professional career until migraines took away my life. It’s a disability, not a selfie pose. The fact that this debilitating disease, that overwhelmingly affects women, is not yet recognized as a disability would have made for a great article. Instead, ELLE did this insensitive fluff piece. Changing the wording to ‘headache’ doesn’t make it better, since migraines are often misunderstood by the uneducated as ‘just a bad headache’.

This is my reality . Migraine headaches need more awareness. It's not "just:l" a headache. My brain is trying to escape from my skull... how is that a pose ??????? . Please I need more awareness. We need more awareness!!

I live in constant migraine pain. It has obliterated my career, and been a hindrance, if not the death of, all my friendships and relationships. Your use of "migraine poses" on instagram is insipid and utterly lacking any cultural literacy or sensitivity to this disease that LITERALLY destroys lives. You've practically MOCKED Migraineurs by merely admiring pretty people POSING like they hurt rather than taking the opportunity to EDUCATE the masses about the prevalence of chronic migraines and how they can destroy the lives and even social networks of people (primarily women) who deal with unrelenting, agonizing pain that keeps us from the fullest lives we MIGHT have had were it not for this disease. Along with OM, I challenge you to write, or let one of us write an article that explains in depth what happens in Migraine, how it affects people, and the challenges that migraineurs face in dealing with people who do not understand how debilitating it is. Please consider our request.

I suffer daily with migraines and feel really sad because so much ignorance still surrounds this debilitating disease.
