Benicia Police Department: Stop Bullying Benicia Families on Facebook

To the Kind Attention of Mayor Patterson, Vice Mayor Young, and Council Members Hughes, Campbell and Schwartzman,
The Benicia Police Department has adopted an embarrassing policy of cyber bullying Benicia residents via their Facebook page. The posts on this page include the names of those who have been charged with crimes, and result in both the accused and their families being put through "trial by social media" before anyone has even been convicted.
This behavior needs to end. Innocent children in the Benicia community should not have their family troubles spewed all over social media by a police department that should be protecting them from such bullying.
You can expect to see members of this community, including those who have signed this petition, at your upcoming January council meetings. You can also expect to see our opinions on this matter reflected in our votes during the next election season.
Thanks for your time in addressing this situation. The Benicia Community looks forward to your swift response, and has faith that you will agree that a zero tolerance policy for police cyber bullying should be enforced and a formal apology should be issued to the families who have been affected by these acts of hate.
