We are concerned citizens of Great Neck in support of free and fair elections in our community.

A majority of members of the Great Neck Library Association voted in favor of eliminating the nominating committee in October 2021.  Although the requisite supermajority of 67% was not reached, there is clearly strong support in the community for the dissolution of this committee.

This archaic and unnecessary Nominating Committee perpetuates cronyism and discourages qualified candidates from running.  There is no "Nominating Committee" in any other local election in our town. 

We request that a special election be held with the express purpose of amending the Library By-Laws and eliminating the Nominating Committee.
