Why this petition matters

Started by Rick ELSKAMP

The State of Kansas is obligated to provide services for the Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled  residents of Kansas yet continues to fail in this obligation. Kansas gets federal funds and Kansas funds to provide these services but eligible individuals are required to wait 10 years or longer once they've been determined eligible to start getting services, examples of services would be day services, residential services, respite care for parents and guardians just to name a few. As of June of 2022 there were 9,058 persons getting services and 4,742 eligible for services but are not getting them due to a broken mismanaged system. On top of that, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly deleted $20 million dollars from the budget this year that was allocated to reduce this waitlist. The individuals needing these supports are for the most part unable to work full time  and provide for themselves. They are truly the needy in our society, one of which is our daughter and the State of Kansas is failing to meet their obligations. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall are  Federal Kansas Senators and Tracey Mann, Jake LaTurner, Sharice Davids, and Ron Estes are the Representatives that need to be contacted during this election year to shed more light on this problem. This link has all roster and contact information for the Kansas Legislatures- http://www.kslegislature.org/li

I've been contacted by my federal representatives but it appears all the control for this program is at the State of Kansas level.
