Make Criminal Records of Politicians Visible to Voters
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
In the recent past there have been incidents of politicians blatantly breaking the law and then going on to brag that their criminal record was declared in the nomination forms. They tend to justify claiming that they were voted to power democratically, in spite of their criminal records.
This begs the question - "Are the voters really aware of these criminal records?". The answer to that question is a resounding NO. These records are declared in the nomination forms which are then submitted to the election commision. It can be argued that these records are available in the public domain. But let us also consider the fact that most voters aren't tech savvy to research on the internet or do not have the wherewithal to file RTI applications seeking these details.
Hence, my appeal to The Hon'ble Election Commissioner of India and The Hon'ble President of India is -
Make it mandatory to print all the criminal cases pending against any individual wishing to contest elections in any propaganda material such as pamphlets, posters, etc.
This will ensure that the voters are aware of these details and are in a better position to make an educated choice.
