Amir Hekmati is an American citizen of Iranian decent being held unjustly in Iran's Evin Prison. Amir was born in Arizona, and grew up in Nebraska and Arizona. He served as a Marine for four years and is a decorate combat veteran. In August of 2011, he traveled to Iran to visit his aging grandmothers. He was arrested that same month in Iran and accused of working for the CIA. In January of 2012, he was sentenced to death. In March of 2012, that death sentence was overturned, with officials saying there was lack of evidence. A new trial was ordered. There has been no movement on this trial as of yet. Since then, Amir's father has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. His father fears he will never see his son again. Amir has been in Iranian custody at Evin prison for over 500 days.
