Our daughter, Hannah Parkhurst died of an accidental drug overdose in 2014. Her friends were too scared to call 911 because they were using drugs and abandoned her instead. We don't know if calling 911 would have saved her life, but at least she would have had a fighting chance. According to the CDC, there had been a total of 63,600 deaths attributed to drug overdose in the US in 2016. The best way to encourage overdose witnesses to seek medical help is to exempt them from arrest and prosecution for minor drug and alcohol law violations, an approach often referred to as Good Samaritan 911.Twenty other states have passed this legislation and we would like to see this change in Alabama. Join us to help prevent accidental drug overdoses and save lives!
