A Call for Unity on the Values Underlying Health Care Reform

As Ohio health care professionals, students, and retirees with first-hand experience providing care, we know how dysfunctional our current “system” is and the hurdles it creates for our patients to obtain and pay for.

Out of our deep concerns about the divisiveness that pervades this era’s political campaigns, regarding health care and other issues, we write to declare and affirm our fundamental personal and professional values in the spirit of America’s founding values.

We hold these truths to be self-evident:

  • That all people are created equal,
  • That we are endowed with certain unalienable rights,
  • That, among these, is access to affordable health care,
  • That we can secure this right for all by using the money already spent on health care more wisely,
  • That barriers to health care erode other unalienable rights, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,
  • That we must achieve these goals without delay.

To affirm our commitment to these values, we sign our names below.
