Why this petition matters

Joel Ellis Spingarn Sr. High School in Washington, DC. is a historical landmark, in 2013 during his mayoral tenure Vincent Gray (Current City Council Member Ward 7) and Kaya Henderson (former DC Chancellor) elected to close Spingarn High sighting low funding and enrollment. There were promises made of reopening the school to no avail, instead a non useful overspent budget trolley and its accessories sits on the grounds of this Historically Black abandoned school. This school gave many of us hope, opportunity, and a path to success, such as Elgin Baylor, Dave Bing, Mike Castro, Ahmad Conner, Khalif Dandy, Eric Dortch-Jones, Sherman Douglas, Earl Jones, Malik Sneed, John Tresvant and Stan Washington, and yet our Government would not spend a penny to aid in the schools demise over the years even after our stars left the school, but they proudly boast at the schools past success and its successors. We will Stand4Spingarn and we can not sit back and watch our beloved school rot any longer. We are tired of the lies and the cover up for gentrification purposes. We are asking that you sign the petition to Stand4Spingarn in getting our school reopened as the great High School it once was, with a state of the art library, science and technology labs to attract all races.  If we do not stand for something we will fall for anything. Please sign the petition in getting Spingarn reopened as a High School and not a Charter School.
