Instill the value of being a good digital citizen in our kids
In her Computer Science course, my kid has a chapter dedicated to being a good digital citizen. It talks about issues of plagiarism with an example of a girl copying a song from her friend without telling her. It also goes on to explain plagiarism in general and how we should not use someone’s content without permission and what a copyright is. I sincerely appreciate that Ekya teaches such practical and important matters at an early age, especially in the current digital-first era.
However, it is disheartening to see that very same daughter has textbooks printed by Ekya that have absolutely blatant CamScanner (free version) scanned content from published books without giving any credit to the publisher. It is pretty obvious that they have not sought the publisher's permission. I honestly don't see why the school would do this given that as parents we would not mind paying a little more for published books over the book fee that we are already paying.
Such actions send the wrong message to our children, where the school teaches the children about the evils of copyright violation and practice it themselves. Let's send this petition to the CMR Ekya group to end this malpractice for a better future for our kids.
