This petition was created to inform EGF residents of the plan to build an asphalt plant in city limits, next to Crystal Sugar, and why it SHOULD NOT be allowed!
This plant was UNANIMOUSLY voted AGAINST just outside of city limits by the county due it's close proximity to the city and it's harmful effects it will have on it's residents.
The land in city limits they NOW want to build on has already been annexed and just needs the city council's vote to move forward. Our city council members need to know we don't want this!
There are MANY reasons why this plant will be terrible for our city and our residents, but the most important reason is the toxic fumes it will put off less than a mile from HOMES and PARKS and less than two miles from SCHOOLS!
Plants like Crystal Sugar and this asphalt plant have regulations they have to follow for things like emissions, however, they are regulated INDIVIDUALLY! But, these two plants will be right next to each other. The COMBINATION of their emissions will more than exceed regulation standards, yet nothing will be done about it because they are regulated separately.
This plant is bad for our children, our homes, our businesses, and our environment. Not to mention the smell, the noise, the decrease in property value, the effects on the sugar beets being processed right next door that we CONSUME, and so much more.
