Edx empezó como una plataforma de aprendizaje multidisciplinar y gratuita con cursos de muchas universidades de todo el mundo y con la opción de comprar certificados verificados.

Desde mediados de diciembre de 2018 se ha restringido el acceso a las personas que no pueden o simplemente no quieren pagar alegando motivos de "sostenibilidad a largo plazo".

Personalmente he seguido muchos cursos y he pagado algunos de ellos en base a su utilidad en mi carrera laboral, pero de ninguna manera podría haberlos completado todos si tuviera que haber pagado cada uno de ellos.

El precio por curso es de unos 49$ lo que los hace bastante asequibles, es cierto, pero aún así hay muchas personas que no se lo pueden permitir y que no tienen acceso a las ayudas económicas que EDX ofrece.

Antes de este cambio todo el mundo era libre de seguir un curso y tener la opción de obtener calificaciones para monitorizar su aprovechamiento del curso y finalmente si lo consideraban adecuado pagar el certificado y añadirlo a su curriculum.

El motivo de esta petición es por lo tanto enviar un mensaje a EDX para hacerles ver que con esta estrategia lo que efectivamente van a conseguir es que  la gente con menos recursos no tenga acceso a este tipo de educación la cual ofrece mucha calidad y en materias muy variadas.

Esto es una buena estrategia de mercadotecnia para una empresa pero personalmente me parece una "mala jugada" para un organización sin ánimo de lucro como es EDX.

Ahora van a forzar a la gente con menos recursos a tener que pagar si quieren seguir los cursos o directamente discriminarlos si realmente no pueden.

Edx started as a free and multidisciplinary learning platform with courses from many universities around the world and with the option of buying verified certificates.

Since mid-December 2018, access has been restricted to people who cannot or simply do not want to pay on the grounds of "long-term sustainability" reasons.

Personally I have taken many courses and paid for some of them based on their usefulness in my career, but in no way could I have completed all of them if I had to have paid each of them.

The price per course is about $49 which makes them quite affordable, it is true, but still there are many people who can not afford them and who do not have access to the financial aid that EDX offers.

Before this change, everyone was free to follow a course and have the option of obtaining qualifications to monitor their use of the course and finally, if they considered it appropriate, to pay for the certificate and add it to their curriculum.

The reason for this request, is therefore, to send a message to EDX to let them see that with this strategy what they will effectively achieve is that people with less resources will not have access to this type of education which offers a lot of quality and in varied subjects.

This is a good marketing strategy for a company but personally I think it's a "bad move" for a non-profit organization such as EDX.

Now they are going to force people with fewer resources to have to pay if they want to follow the courses or simply discriminate them if they really can't.
