We are writing to express our strong support for the plans to build housing for formerly homeless individuals and households on Mission Bay South (Block 9 - the “Project”).
We believe it is our social responsibility to provide housing for people experiencing homelessness. This means we support this type of housing in our own neighborhoods and we also encourage the City to ensure such housing is distributed fairly and equitably in all Supervisory Districts. Housing for people experiencing homelessness is needed in every district.
The Mission and SOMA are particularly impacted by homelessness. People are living in tents in these neighborhoods. We walk by them in the course of our daily lives. We earnestly want people who are living on our sidewalks in tents to have a safe, clean place to live indoors. That outcome is the best, for all parties.
We value being part of a community that is diverse, inclusive and prioritizes fair and equitable distribution of housing. The City must therefore move forward with its plan to build supportive housing in Mission Bay.
