A Pattern of Behaviour by Brighton & Hove City Council
Mar 7, 2017 — Dear Supporters,
it seems Brighton & Hove City Council are breaching someone else's disability and equality rights as well as lying and failing in their legal duties to them too:
"Robert Carver is a paraplegic who has been told by his GP, nurse, occupational therapist and psychologist that he needs 24-hour-a-day care but Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) has only allocated him 28 hours a week. This means that Robert Carver is left to his own devices for two days a week and on the other days from 17:00 till noon the next day. During that time he has no access to food, water, toilet, bath or even his bed.
The accommodation which has been allocated to Robert Carver is a second-floor flat which can only be reached by two flights of steep stairs. Robert Carver has to be dragged up and down the stairs in order to attend his medical appointments. The flat itself is too small to be wheelchair accessible which means that Robert Carver is pulled around over the floor by his PA."
The above petition lists multiple breaches of disability and housing laws as well as human rights breaches.
Clearly this local authority has a 'couldn't care less' attitude towards it's failings and it's breaches of law, as well as vulnerable people. I would go as far as to say it shows a pattern of behaviour. Particularly when you look at their employee reviews:
"almost all managers profoundly inept. bullying and harassment part and parcel of management's and HR's day to day behavioural interaction with staff. ...lots of time, energy and naturally money spent on processes to demonstrate - on paper only - compliance to government's Equality agenda. Equality agenda not a priority"
"need to re-invigorate a council that sick, dysfunctional and creating a pervasively toxic working environment."
"They scapegoat zero hours / agency staff with no employment rights to save their own skins."
"Poor leadership and lack of management development means serious management leadership issues. Poor equality (although much lip service is paid to this"
"Poor record for supporting people with additional needs within their roles"
"Mobsters, egos, inequality and crazy"
Doesn't sound good does it. Especially when you look at what is said in the previous petition updates about local failings before the referral.
Please continue to sign and share. Many thanks.
