Town of Smithtown town code of 500 feet set back distance does not allign with the NYS DEC setback for distance of 150 feet needed from a dwelling in which a hunter does not have consent from the owner. This extra stringent code is discriminatory to the licensed NYS hunter a group which includes many voting Smithtown residents as well as it punishes Smithtown residents who do not hunt that wish to enlist the help of a hunter/neighbor to help them with their ever growing deer population. Not only does Smithtown make it impossible for many of their residents to manage the deer problem in residential areas they also keep all of their wooded town owned property closed to hunting, which if hunting was allowed on these properties it would help control the population that in turn spills into neighborhoods. This petition is to call for the change of the town code to allign with state law and to possibly set in motion some sort of plans to open town property for archery hunting. This petition is being sent to you signed by voting Smithtown residents in the time of an election in hopes that us as Smithtown sportsman, woman, and their friends and family could help elect someone who in turn will help us with our cause.
