Alter airline policy regarding wheelchair bound passengers
On Sunday 12/9/12, the Delta Airlines crew servicing a flight from Atlanta to Washington D.C. refused to accomodate Marine Lance Cpl. Christian Brown, a 29 year old veteran of the Afganistan War who was injured stepping on an IED last December resulting in the loss of both of his legs. He was running a 104 fever, & on his way back to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. where he has been hospitalized & undergoing therapy for the past year & is currenlty living in a two bedroom apartmenet on site with his mother.
Rather than allow him to switch seats with two seperate first class passengers who volunteered to give up their places, the Delta crew insisted that he be wheeled to the back row to which he had been assigned after every one else had borded the plane. By the time he was finally seated, he had been humilitaed to the point of tears.
Evidently, this so angered the passengers on this flight that they complained to the flight crew, all of whom refused to provide their names. One passenger was even instructed to speak to the Captain upon landing, but by the time she had reached the cockpit, the pilot had already disembarked & disappeared. Several passengers have since filed written complaints against the airline, but other than a statement that the incident is being investigated, no response has been offered.
This is NOT how we treat the disabled in America, & CERTAINLY NOT how we should treat those who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. Tell Delta Airlines to change their policy regarding the disabled, or we will boycott their airline.

The manner in which your airline treated Marine Lance Cpl. Christian Brown, a disabled military veteran who is wheelchair bound, is unconscionable and unacceptable. Rather than allow first class passengers who offered to switch seats with him to do so, your flight crew insisted on wheeling him to the back row of the plane after everyone else has boarded resulting in his being humiliated to tears.
Not only was this unnecessarily cruel, it created a potentially dangerous situation for him had the plane crashed. We provide special places in parking lots for those who are unable to walk, but your airline forces those same people into the back row of an airplane, even when there are those willing to compromise their own comfort to accommodate someone less fortunate than themselves?
Alter you policy regarding wheelchair bound passengers or we will boycott your organization. Provide them with better accommodations, or at least respect the wishes of those with more advantageous seating who might be willing to switch seats.
Additionally, it appears that given the responses of the entire flight crew from the attendants through the flight captain, that increased sensitivity training regarding the needs of the handicapped is necessary for your organization. This is NOT how we treat the disabled in America, & CERTAINLY NOT how we should treat those who gave the ultimate sacrifice serving our country.
