Support Critical race theory in Ohio schools
Just like in many other states, over the summer Ohio has introduced house bill 322 that would bar educators across the state from teaching specific subjects that relate to more complex topics surrounding race. In addition, these members of congress try to cover it up by using decisive language to make it seem like they are supporting the protection of these people when they are doing the direct opposite and trying to whitewash American history even more so. Critical race theory by Definition according to some professors of Crt and sociology is that it is a mindset that allows us to analyze how specific guidelines and institutions within the United States may house racist policies even after the era of Jim Crow and segregation ended. If this bill passes it could serve a major problem to the job of history teachers. We are meant to teach history so we don’t repeat it, history is not taught for a political or societal narrative.
while the bill has still not passed to my knowledge, we need to come together to make sure a bill like this never does. History cannot be limited in how it’s conducted. Our past is our past no matter how dark and we can only learn from studying it and moving on with that knowledge. Please reach out to your senators and house members to tell them how you feel!
