Diversity in Alabama Education

Diversity in Alabama Education
In today’s time, not many people know that segregation and racial language is still used in the school system in the state of Alabama. Along with this, many people are unaware that segregation and racial language is still printed in our state’s Constitution. Although Brown vs. Board of Education makes it impossible to segregate schools in the United States, the racial language that is used in our state Constitution is very offensive and demeaning towards African Americans and other races and cultures. With this being allowed in our state, it makes it easier for children of color to be looked at and treated differently in the school systems along with making others believe it is okay to use this language towards them. Many people believe that changing this amendment is obscene because it is “symbolic” to Alabama, but there is nothing obscene or symbolic about the inequality of our fellow peers. This is also an ugly mark on the state of Alabama due to its history with racism and segregation. We must change this history and mold Alabama into the accepting and diverse state that it truly is. Along with this, all must agree that every child should be treated equally and have the right to an equal education in Alabama’s school system. Are you looking? Because these children need to be seen. These children need to be heard. These children demand to have equality just like everyone else.
