Simona Pompili started this petition to UK Ministry for Education

On average, a woman in the UK is killed every 3 days. Since March this year, 80 women have been killed. Something needs to change. Bringing tougher legislation for the men who perpetrate these crimes is a start, but it's not enough. There needs to be a fundamental shift in the way women are perceived and thus treated in society.

Global research has shown that boys learn to behave in gendered ways that are reinforced by the adults around them. By the age of 10-11 boys have already formed their gendered identities (which often involves incorporating the dominant “macho” heterosexual ideal of masculinity) and have begun distancing themselves from perceived "feminine" behaviours in order to demonstrate to their peers what it means to be a "real boy" (which often means putting down or bullying girls). We need to shift this narrative and this has to start with school.

The current curriculum content for Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education is not enough, as it doesn't teach children to look at their gendered identities in any depth and understand that gender equality is a fundamental right that everyone (boys and girls) need to promote.
