Having a liberal arts degree provides a value allowing students not only to explore academics but understand the nuances around them. This allows students in STEM majors to explore philosophy, art, politics and vice versa. Yielding well rounded scholars who understand the limits of their knowledge. While the goal of this educational format is just it has certain limitations especially to those who are lucky enough to enter educational institutions with a valid understanding of the nuances that exist in the world. This hinders students from exploring the depths of the field they hope to enter (Engineering, chemistry, physics) who might have lived experiences allowing them to understand cultural nuances. This also may be a detriment to their learning by forcing them to take classes that they are comfortable with, building a disdain for learning by hearing the repetition of things they may already understand. With a world constantly accelerating around students they should have the right to truly explore the depths of their fields in undergraduate education. Thus it should be fair for students to simply take tests to prove comprehension of humanities classes as they have the option to do this with basic science and mathematics courses. This action simply equates the two principles as opposed to treating STEM courses throw away courses for humanities degrees.
