Schools are not safe workplaces. The lack of regard for minimum temperature requirements is just one of many violations of Health and Safety standards that we are being asked to tolerate. 

The government has shown no regard for the welfare of students and school workers. They have shown themselves unwilling to spend on genuine pandemic mitigation. 

What's more, the spread of the pandemic has been exacerbated by historic underfunding of our schools.

While some individuals and companies make millions during the pandemic we are being asked to tolerate the intolerable.

Enough is enough.

Time has proven that the state will not act unless put under pressure and we owe it to our school communities to take decisive action.

At this point our unions must ballot for industrial action.

This is not about public opinion. It is about a safe and decent workplace for the 1 million + in this country who go to school every day.

Some people will point out that there is legislation which does not allow industrial action under these circumstances.

Our response is: if the Department of Education is violating basic health and safety protocols then why should our unions play fair?
