MAKE SEX EDUCATION A COMPULSORY TOPIC OF DISCUSSION IN ALL SCHOOLS AND AT HOME.
‘’DON’T TALK TO BOYS’’- one of the most common dialogues for a teenage girl who studies in a co-ed school and even more common for a girl studying in an all girls school. We are all filled with a fear that boys are monsters; they will RAPE and KILL you. For all those who can relate to this I bet your parents never spoke to you about sex education at home. Well then, where did the enlightenment come from?
Facts have proven that:-
- The first exposure to pornography for boys on an average is when they are 12 years old and for girls when they are 16.
- 9/10 boys and 6/10 girls are exposed to pornography before the age of 18.
- 83% of boys and 53% of girls are exposed to group sex online
The most harmful thing that pornography can do to a girl is to build a high level of fear that sex is extremely painful and scary because girls cry as they are in pain during a sexual intercourse. It has reached such a fearful level that a girl in 2013 in India stated in her school project that she cries every night because she doesn’t ever want to have sex. She had accepted the fact that she will have to eventually go through the torturous, unbearable, gruesome process of having a sexual relationship with her husband and will not be able to tolerate the pain.
More than 400 offences like rape/murder/child sex grooming were linked with applications like tinder, grindr, down and the like where users are vulnerable to 'sextortion'.
THE GENERAL INDIAN MENTALITY:
“Dear school teacher,
As a concerned parent, I wish to protest against the introduction of sex education in my child’s curriculum. You are clearly not aware of this, but sex is a shameful act, it is against the Indian culture and should be banned. Sex is a western concept. Indians don’t need sex education. If we want a child, we pray to God, and he grants our wish. See what happens when westerners teach about sex – their kids think that it’s okay to do it! Please don’t corrupt my child with myths, such as equal sexual rights for men and women, positive body image, and alternative sexual orientation. I prefer them to grow up with good moral values and correct beliefs, such as rape and molestation is always the woman’s fault, sex is a taboo subject, men cannot be sexually assaulted, homosexuality is a disease, and good people cannot contract HIV/AIDS.
An indignant parent”
WHERE IS THIS TAKING US & WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO IT?
SEX EDUCATION SHOULD PUT LIGHT ON THE FOLLOWING CONCEPTS:
• GOOD TOUCH/BAD TOUCH
• CYBER BULLYING/SEXTING
• PORNOGRAPHY AND ITS ADVERSE AFFECTS
• RELATIONSHIP EDUCATION
• CHILD SEX GROOMING CONCEPT
• GENDER STEREOTYPES
• SEX IS NOT ABOUT HAVING BABIES
• PROTECTION TO SAFEGUARD OURSELVES AGAINST STD
• POPULATION CONTROL-CONTRACEPTIVE PILLS
WE OWE EVERY CHILD AGE APPROPRIATE INFORMATION REGARDING SEXUAL ABUSE.
