Here in Los Angeles, and pretty much anywhere around the world, people are still very busy at night. Some go to their jobs while others walk home or wait at bus stops to go home after a long eventful day. I, myself, sometimes have to go home really late since I am a sophomore in college, so I am very aware of how unsafe it can be at night, especially when alone. Thankfully, nothing more than bump ins and altercations were what I have encountered, but not many have been as lucky. That is why to solve this issue of safety at night when it's more dangerous, I strongly believe that adding more lampposts at areas where there isn't much light, can be a defining factor to immediate safety for everyone. But also, having police patrol areas even where people don't frequent as much, would be double the protection than what the lampposts provide.

The lampposts can have light-sensitive photocells so that they can automatically activate once dawn comes. That way, no energy or light will be overused or wasted, while still serving as protection and illumination for those with night schedules.
