Schools are starting too early in the day which is a problem for most students in many ways. Since school starts early many teenagers in middle and high schools are not getting the sleep that they need. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that schools start no later than 8:30 A.M. Teens need 9.25-8.5 hours but, ⅔ teens get less than 7 hours of sleep. Some effects of getting very little sleep are overweight, drinking alcohol, smoking tobacco, and using drugs, as well as poor academic performance. According to debate.org 79% of people believe that schools should start later in the day. We want to drop school times by 1/2 an hour. We hope that you support our cause.
