Along with leaking toilets left unfixed, mould in bathrooms, and rotting windows Edge Hill University's accommodation service has now begun threats of illegal eviction against a student who has anxiety, because the student will not sign a different contract from the one previously accepted by the accommodation service (and signed by the student), in an attempt to give the student less rights. The student has taken advice from Shelter and Edge Hill Students' Union. The University's accommodation service is acting illegally.

The accommodation service is trying to leave the student without anywhere to live, less than two weeks after World Mental Health Day. 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health condition (e.g. anxiety or depression) in any given week[1], so it is likely that you know someone who has suffered from a mental health condition. Imagine if your friend was being treated this way by their landlord.

This kind of behaviour is shocking and disgusting, and is causing further anxiety to a student who already has anxiety issues. The accommodation service should stop this behaviour immediately. And considering the fact that the University's pro-vice chancellor has just been convicted of fraud[2], this hardly seems a way to fix the damaged reputation of the University.
