Being a student from 2019-2021 has been incredibly hard. We have had to teach ourselves curriculum from home, being in and out of lockdowns, reach deadlines and get used to a ‘new’ normal. 

Recently, as a Year 13 student I have had March mock exams at home. I was told by my teachers that these were the ‘MOST’ important exams as they could determine my final grade. However, I found out in the same week that these exams may mean nothing at all, as we are now sitting summer exams.

My mental health is completely shattered by the amount of stress, deadlines, exams we have been given and now I’ve found out that I will just be feeling this all over again. I know it’s not just Year 13s that feel this way...it’s Year 11s too. 

I understand that this is a hard time for teachers, as well as pupils from other year groups- however, exam years are suffering the most. Our mental health is at the worst it has ever been, not a lot of support from teachers, feeling like failures because we can’t reach deadlines for essays or coursework- it is a hard time. A lot of us are going off to university at the end of this year and having the stress of that on top of new exams that have been decided this week is ridiculous.

The best way forward for students is to look at their work from the last two years, the exams we worked so hard in and have just sat. There needs to be a change and we need more support. At the end of the day, this determines OUR future.
