Why this petition matters

Started by Roger Becker
We petition the Edgartown Selectboard to hold a public hearing to discuss the future of ferry service to Chappaquiddick. The Selectboard, under Massachusetts G.L., Chapter 88, Section 6, is responsible for providing service to Chappaquiddick---Either by licensing to an independent operator, of by direct ownership and management. Currently the present licensees are preparing to sell their business. A full prepurchase discussion of potential options should be discussed openly with the Chappaquiddick community. In all events, Massachusetts law requires the Selectboard to regulate rates and service. Time is of the essence as the transfer of ownership is anticipated to occur by year's end.
