It turns out the plates and bowls that my school uses aren't Styrofoam, they're actually made out of corn. I apologize for the misinformation that gave out. I should of gotten more information before making this. I did find out that the owner of my school cafeteria is an enviormentalist, so I'm going to see if I can meet with her and try to help other schools move away from styrofoam and other harmful materials. I'm one of the 3,000 students attending Eden Prairie High School, and I have to say it is a very environmentally friendly school. They have recycle bins in each room and hallway, and on most water fountains are spouts to refill water bottles. My school usually uses reusable plastic plates and bowls for lunch, but last week I started to notice how they've started using styrofoam plates, bowls, and take out boxes for salads, some lunches, and most a la cart items for convenience. I think they should set a better example for their students, and stop being wasteful just because it makes your job slightly easier. Sooner or later, we're going to run out of oil and we won't be able to make more. Our schools are perfect places to make sure people don't become dependent on wasteful materials, especially ones that aren't renewable.
