Karen Zhang started this petition to EDB Officer (EDB Hong Kong) and

Dear sir or madam:

We demand the EDB to find a way to resume 100% face-to-face learning for ALL children immediately. The current EDB policy of leaving the matter to individual schools is highly ineffective and creates inequality as well as social divide which is utterly harmful to our children. Schools should be the last to close and first to open. Please do your job to restore and defend our children’s undeniable right to education.

We demand:

1. Give all teachers and school staff the priority to be vaccinated. (This has been fulfiled today after the petition is published.) If any teacher or staff does not want to get vaccinated or cannot be vaccinated due to medial reasons, they can choose to get a COVID test every 14 days. We cannot see why teachers are not essential workers. Our schools have been closed fully or partially for longer periods than ANY OTHER sector in HK, so it is only fair that schools should be open first.

2. If you want to keep mandatory testing as a pre-requisite to resume 100% face-to-face learning, please put this as an EDB mandate. We are so grateful that some teachers are willing to do this voluntarily but there are also strong oppositions from some teachers. Therefore, parents and students are caught in the middle and controversies are heating up in schools as well as in society. This is very harmful and our children are the ultimate victims. We are sure you do not want to see HK more divided because of your unwillingness to take the responsibility that is rightfully yours.

We are writing to you now in the hope that we will see immediate action and all schools can resume 100% face-to-face learning immediately. We sincerely hope that parents to do not need to resort to media lobbying or mass petitions to get the government’s attention. There are thousands of frustrated parents who cannot wait to see their children return to campus tomorrow.

Sincerely yours,

A group of parents (represented by Ms Yuan)
