Improve School Resource Officer Transparency and Accountability

We the undersigned believe that the racial disparities witnessed in juvenile arrests in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) stem from a combination of officer biases and flawed policies derived from the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between FCPS and Fairfax County Police Department. Therefore, we demand the following:

1. Narrow School Resource Officer (SRO) scope of responsibility to only intervene in potentially life-threatening situations.

2. Prohibit SROs from switching between administrators and law enforcement officers.

3. End racial profiling and ‘stop and frisk’ policies.

4. Empower parents to intervene on their children’s behalf when they are the subject of police investigation.
