The Lifelong Learning Committee of Perth & Kinross Council has agreed to undertake a statutory consultation.  The consultation period will run from Monday 27th August until Friday 5th October.  The consultation proposal is to close Blairingone Primary School and all pupils will attend Fossoway Primary School.

SIGN THE PETITION AND HELP SAVE OUR RURAL SCHOOL

Blairingone Primary School was first opened in 1836 the owners of the coal mines built the school for the children of the colliery workers.  It was governed by a school board in about the 1870s. Blairingone has already lost its pub, village hall, church and shop please don't let us lose our school too.

My personal story on why Blairingone Primary School should not close.

We moved to the area in June 2017, 2 months before our son was due to start Primary 1.  We visited Blairingone and also our neighbouring school.  I loved Blairingone Primary School and how welcoming the staff were, but my concern was how small the school was and the importantance of children making friends and also the threat that Blairingone was closing.  We opted for the neighbouring school for those reasons.

August arrived and my baby was off to primary school.  There were tears on both parts but we will get used to it, I thought. A few weeks in and my son was still in floods of tears every morning at drop off and refused to talk about school when he came home every day.  Week days were a constant battle to get him in the car and 4 out of 5 days we were late for school.  My son had gone from a happy playful 4 year old to an unhappy little boy.  Finally the October holidays arrived and no more daily battles going to school. Surely after the holidays he’ll be fine, he had turned 5 and should now be used to the daily routine of school.

First day back and he clung onto me for life, 3.15pm pick up time please let him come out smiling but no his little face was miserable. We finally got to the Christmas Holidays and moving schools was on my mind, I couldn’t let this carry on, my son was so unhappy and the only cause was going to school.  From the August he began crying through the night complaining of head aches. We had eye tests done, visits to the doctor but nothing was physically wrong just pure unhappiness.  We sat our son down and asked him what we should do, stay at his current school or try a new school, his words “please mummy let me go to the small school”.

We started the ball rolling and our son started at Blairingone Primary School and we have never looked back.  He’s excited about his day ahead and everyday he looks forward to his day at school.  When he comes home he’s eager to tell you all about his day.  His confidence has grown tremendously and so has his school work.  My son and the other kids love Blairingone Primary School.  The teachers and staff are so welcoming and everyday they fill you in on all the progress your child has done.

Please take a couple of your minutes to sign this petition and save our school in Blairingone, thank you x
