It's been almost 2 years since we have lost the greatest football player that West Texas has ever produced, and quite possibly the states ever known.
The great Cedric Benson blessed West Texas with an incredible 3 year run of the best football that our great region has ever seen. Culminating in 3 consecutive state championships and ending his Career as the big schools all time leading rusher in Texas high school football history.
Whether you were from Midland, Odessa or the surrounding area. You took pride in being from West Texas, especially while Cedric and his Rebels were making history on their historic run. His play brought so much joy and pride for our entire region. What he has done for our region goes without saying.
This great man has earned West Texas immortality. It's now up to us, to see that it comes to fruition. We are advocating for the city of Midland to approve a statue of the greatest high school football player from the mecca of Texas high school football. To be erected just outside the house that he helped build, Grande stadium.
We must ensure that the generations that are yet to come. Understand what Cedric ment to West Texas and the entire state of Texas for that matter. He is no longer here with us in physical being. But his statue would be monumental in showing that we value Greatness. After all. He was once a West Texas kid. And will always be a West Texan!!!
