Protect the Future of the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority

With the recreational cooperation agreement between East Buffalo Twp and Lewisburg Borough set to expire in 2018, township supervisors have signaled they would rather withdraw than allow things to continue as they are.
The Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority (BVRA) board chair has stated publicly that their vote on Dec. 11 to withdraw from the agreement at the end of 2018 is already creating "chaos."
Therefore, we urge elected and appointed officials in East Buffalo Twp and Lewisburg Borough to work together expeditiously and in a spirit of true good faith and cooperation to revise and extend their longstanding intergovernmental agreement concerning recreation.
We believe there is no cause to complain of unfairness in the current agreement, which both sides willingly approved by unanimous votes in public meetings in 2013. We support common sense revision of the agreement. But we disagree with the notion that anything of true value would be gained by having no agreement at all.
We are calling on local officials to do the important work the public has entrusted to them and to support the Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority because we believe residents benefit from the St Mary Park, the Community Pool, the Buffalo Valley Rail Trail, the BVRA Gymnastics Center, the Summer Camp program, and other recreation programs, all run by BVRA.
We want all of these things to be maintained now and into the future. We believe BVRA deserves continued support from both municipalities because it has made and will continue to make outstanding and cost-effective contributions to the value of local real estate, to the health of community members of all ages, and to our overall quality of life.
