Ebay and Craigslist: Ban the sale of puppies and kittens on Ebay and Craigslist's classified ads
This is an extremely important issue because many people who breed dogs do so more than once and after they realize the large income they attain from their first litter they soon-after realize that they should let their animals breed again until before you know it they're using their litters like ATM machines. Have you ever wondered why so many animals are euthanized each year (specifically 4 million in shelters), well let me answer that for you- the more we keep irresponsibly producing litters and selling animals on Ebay and Craigslist, for example, the likelier that these animals will just end up in homes where no background check was ever done. Meaning that the animal will probably be poorly treated and wind up at a shelter in the long run. Why? Well because unlike animal shelters and animal rescues where a contract with the potential owner is done, online breeders selling on these sites (majority without a USDA license) only care about money-making profits and do not care about the well-being of an animal and the responsibility that comes with one. Therefore, if you all are like me and would like to see a decrease in the euthanasia rates in animal shelters, I urge you to join my fight on shutting down places where puppies and kittens are loosely sold. I urge you all to please sign my petition to create awareness on this issue, and ultimately to get Ebay and Craigslist to stop all classified ads of puppies and kittens for sale. There are enough abandoned animal ads on Facebook, why not start by saving those? Let's begin by being the solution to the problem not the culprits. Thank you for joining me on this pressing issue. God Bless.
P.S. For clarification purposes- I am telling these CEO's to disallow the sale of puppy and kitten litters for a profit, on their websites. I am not stating that they should disallow someone looking to rehome their pet, for whatever underlying reason. Someone who is looking to rehome their pet will most likely do a background check before giving up their pet, otherwise they would 'dump' their pet at a kill-shelter instead. But my petition is aimed solely at banning the sale of pets for a profit on these websites. It's time to put an end to these backyard breeders!
Changes that must be done to make Ebay and Craigslist a safe place for animals as well:
-Automatically ban the sale of puppies and kittens
-If an animal is being re-homed the individual surrendering their pet must not ask for more than $150 as this is the price that most animal shelters and rescue groups generally ask for
-If an animal is being re-homed the individual surrendering their pet must include a picture of their pet as well as a written questionnaire/contract created by this individual (for screening purposes)
-A re-homing fee must always be stated in the ad. No one is allowed to stay under a flagger's radar by not posting what the re-homing fee is in their ad. For example; "6 week old puppies for adoption call/email for re-homing fee."
-An animal will not be allowed to be posted under the title 'FREE to good home.' A price under $150 must be stated in the ad. Many times people will intentionally look for 'Free pet' ads (specifically those looking for dogs) to use these animals as bait dogs in dogfighting. Other times, they will be neglected, dumped when no longer wanted, sold for profit as laboratory animals, or used as breeders (if unaltered).
-In addition to the above, Ebay and Craigslist must also include in their 'Dog/Cat Section' that it is strongly advisable that prior to surrendering their pet one should screen all potential adopters to make sure their pet goes to a good home. Without proper placement, animals may be abused or neglected! (Last sentence should be in capslock letters).
-Lastly, Ebay and Craigslist must respond immediately to those flagging ads that go against any of these new regulations. Such ads must be taken down, and the individual will be contacted given a reason why. The individual will also be warned that if repeated (using the same profile), their account will be automatically suspended until further notice due to the fact that they have violated community standards twice.
