Plastic-Free Easton was founded by a group of citizens—your neighbors!—who want to raise awareness about the problems of using and disposing of “free” single-use plastic bags. They are an environmental catastrophe. The Town of Easton does not recycle those bags and we have only one option to recycle them, the store we carry them out of—if that store participates in bag recycling. And, at that, most—something like 90 percent—are thrown away.  You only have to look up at a tree or along the shore or in a farm field to see where too many of them end up. Those bags are ugly, they pollute the land and water, and they kill creatures that get caught up in them. Worse yet, when they break down into microplastics, those tiny particles are a menace to all of Earth's creatures--including us. We ultimately would like to see the Town of Easton eliminate single use plastic bags and ask retailers to charge 10 cents for paper bags. Using reusable bags instead leads to fewer plastic bags in our landfills, byways, and waterways. You get a more beautiful Easton and a healthier environment for us, our fisheries, and agriculture.
