Im Siarra, a female high school student in Maryland. Today was the third day of school and already, so many girls have been dress coded including myself. For what i was wearing, i think it was completely unreasonable to say that my shirt was revealing or that the boys would have trouble concentrating because of it. My shirt is a black V-neck that showed less than 2 inches of my stomach. To add to that, i was wearing Duck Dynasty sweatpants that went up right above my hips. Yes, i do agree with some of the rules they have like for example, wearing a bra, having your shorts cover your assets, not showing too much cleavage but some rules are just outrageous. My school has a rule in the handbook that says, "Clothing that exposes underwear or the body, including but not limited to: cleavage and the midriff, low rider pants, tops with spaghetti straps, strapless tops, halter tops, open back shirts or dresses, or tops that are unduly revealing (cut low at the neck or underarms, exposes bare midriff, pants worn below the hips exposing underwear or skin) are not to be worn." While i do agree with the excessive cleavage and low riding pants that show your underwear, i, along with others, believe that tank tops or "spaghetti strap tops" should be allowed because of how hot the summers are getting. There are so many more examples i can give that show how sexist the education system is but i don't have that much time. If you could give this a sign, its just a button, you could do so much for my school and many more that follow this leadership.
