Eastleigh Borough Council withdraw your planning application for old civic office site

On 24th May 2016, a planning application was put before Eastleigh Local Area Committee. The application was made by Eastleigh Borough Council and requested planning permission to develop the old civic office site to include a new car dealership, office building and two fast food restaurants. This meeting was well attended by members of the local community and a 900 signature petition was presented to the committee that requested they refuse the planning application in it's current form due to concerns over traffic, environment and health. As expected, Eastleigh Local Area Committee refused to take any notice of the public and unanimously voted to approve outline planning permission. The reason given by ELAC was that there is no legal reason to refuse planning permission and to do so would risk the applicant appealing. Remember that the applicant is actually Eastleigh Borough Council themselves. We the undersigned are disgusted that Eastleigh Borough Council have effectively granted themselves planning permission for their own application. The Council has ignored a petition from 900 local people and cited that to refuse themselves planning permission would cause them to appeal against their own decision. Clearly this is another example of Eastleigh Borough Council ignoring local people and using planning law to ride rough shod over local residents. If ELAC are truly unable to refuse the planning application, we therefore demand Eastleigh Borough Council to withdraw their application until they can come up with a plan, for the site, that is acceptable to local people.
