continuing my role as a Physician Assistant student during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Why this petition matters
I understand that the mission of the EVMS Physician Assistant program is to prepare students to provide healthcare in a broad range of medical settings by training them in the medical arts and sciences in an inclusive, multicultural environment dedicated to the delivery of patient-centered care, while fostering a strong commitment to clinical and community partnerships.
The overall goals of the PA program are to prepare graduates to provide quality healthcare and to nurture their service as capable leaders in clinical, research and community service environments.
I understand that with our current situation of the COVID-19 outbreak there are risks associated with working in our community hospitals and clinics. I am fully aware of the potential health risks that I may acquire and possible communicable diseases I may be exposed to while rendering service to members of our community during this Pandemic.
I understand that currently we do not have critical data about transmissibility, morbidity, and mortality and future outcomes regarding exposure COVID-19.
I understand that if I begin to show any symptoms of the COVID-19 including but not limited to mild cold/flu-like symptoms, cough, shortness of breath, or have come in contact with someone with COVID-19 I am to inform EVMS as well as the MPA class of 2020 Clinical Rotation Team as soon as possible and may be subject to COVID-19 testing, self-quarantine, and an immediate stop of continuing with my rotation site responsibilities as a student.
I am fully aware of the recommendations stated by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) and Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) as made on March 10, 2020 to limit direct care of COVID-19 patients or those possibly exposed and therefore choose to continue my role as part of the care team as a Physician Assistant Student.
I am fully aware of my role as a Physician Assistant student and understand the critical role I play in helping control this pandemic by continuing to help our hospitals, clinics, and private practices during this increased demand for healthcare staffing. As a student I understand my limitations but also understand how I may be of service by continuing to work with diverse preceptors and clinical staff to strengthen my skills as part of the patient care team in a broad range of settings which consist of but not limited to Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Women’s Health, and Elective sites during this critical time.
By signing below I am fully aware of all the risks as stated above and choose to continue my role as a Physician Assistant student and waive EVMS from any possible legal action if I were to come in contact or contract the COVID-19 and accept all required actions EVMS, the Clinical Care team, or clinical sites need to take to keep me from spreading COVID-19 and understand hours may need to be completed at a future date which may affect my eligibility for graduation and or PANCE exam date.
