Why this petition matters

Started by Barry L. Baker

We the undersigned, mainly the active senior community, are very concerned about being left out in projected recreation projects and the inaction to get the already approved renovation projects started. It also seems that we are not being included in the multi-million Covid grant monies. Winston-Salem-Forsyth County has zero permanent dedicated pickleball courts.

Forsyth County Parks needs to convert underused tennis courts at Union Cross and Walkertown Parks into dedicated pickleball courts like they have approved at Joanie Moser(Lewisville) and possibly Tanglewood (Clemmons). Pickleball is the fastest growing sport with over 5 million participating up 39% in 2021.

A canopy-covered open shelter multi-court facility could be a year-round 12-month facility that could host major revenue-producing tournaments as well as other events.

The town of Kernersville has approved several parks and recreation projects the resurfacing of courts at the Fourth of July has yet to be started and is in need of repair. The reclamation project of Civitan Park has stopped and the large multi-use Shield's Road headquarters is, unfortunately, years away. Please start these asap.

The local YMCA is at capacity and their facilities are stretched to the max. The Atrium WFU Fitness Center has been closed for over 2 years as has the Gateway YWCA. so there has been a forced reduction in local facilities. Currently, there are projects in bordering counties but they are several minutes' driving time away.

We need serious consideration and plan to support these completed venues when finished. Please start and fund these projects. You always pay a higher price when you procrastinate.
