Salvage the radio of the RMS Titanic

“Come at once. We have struck a berg. It’s a CQD, old man,” Jack Phillips, the Titanic's wireless radio operator, sent that message out as a cry for help. He continued sending SOS and CQD messages until the water reached the radio room. He and his partner, Harold Bride, ran from the room and split up to the life rafts. He was never seen again.

It is official, the RMS Titanic is deteriorating and fast. Due to how recent the tragedy still is to the minds of the people, the wreck of the great ship is to be left alone. The recent ratification of a treaty between the United States and the United Kingdom to protect the Titanic from tourists and pillagers is proof of this.

However, the RMS Titanic Inc., the only salvage company with permission to salvage artifacts from the wreck of the Titanic is requesting, legally, to salvage the radio. The deterioration of the Titanic means that hull of the ship is slowly collapsing in on itself. Meaning, we only have this year to save the World's most famous radio before it is crushed by the ship.

There are two problems with this. One, the RMS Titanic Inc. only has permission to salvage artifacts in the debris field around both wrecks (the ship split in two). Second, a great majority of people wishes to leave the actual ship alone as a mass grave. To get to the radio, the company will have to cut into the ship to retrieve it.

The company is not doing this for money. As a former critique of taking artifacts from the Titanic said, when you experience the Titanic' Collection, you connect with the passengers and crew who died that night. We all know about the passengers who scrambled for the boats, the Women and Children first rule, Captain Edward John Smith holding the helm as the windows shatter from the force of the water entering the cabin, and the musicians who continued to play their instruments until the last second. We will never forget the Titanic, and the collection the RMST company has collected allows us to go back in time to see the Titanic.

The company has made their case, and there are two major events blocking them. One is the ratified treaty to protect the wreck. And the other is the news that a sub hit the Titanic in an accident with unexpected currents and kept silent about it.

We only have this year to save the famous wireless radio and we need to push the legal process along to support RMST Inc. to go get it.
