Rape Survivor Support ECSU started this petition to "Eastern Connecticut State University" and

As much as you may want students to believe that the invalidation, inaction, and lack of support I faced following reporting my rape on your campus was a misunderstanding or isolated incident, it was not. Your response of simply reiterating your policies, that are insufficient and ineffective, is not enough. We demand more.

Sexual assault and violence is not a new issue at Eastern Connecticut State University; it has happened for years, under their authority, and the University has not taken critical steps to address it. While the University states that their “primary concern is the health and well-being of each student [as well as their commitment to] creating a community that is free from acts of sexual violence,” the services on campus are inadequate to protect survivors.

Over 48 stories have revealed that Eastern Connecticut State University services lack: follow-through in contacting survivors, empathy, and adequate legal and psychological support. It is disheartening. It is disappointing. And it is disgusting that Eastern Connecticut State University leaves survivors without proper resources not just to heal, but also find justice.
Their stories can be read here: http://bit.ly/ECSUstories

Survivors cited the ECSU Police Department and the Title IX office for poor handling of their cases and major barriers to receiving their justice. Survivors deserve their University to acknowledge multiple problems including the University’s failure to hold assailants accountable, failure to hold staff accountable, slow processing of cases, and more. Survivors should be assured that crucial steps are being taken to combat these institutional issues.

WE DEMAND THE FOLLOWING:
