Our children’s future lies in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math

Time and again, we hear of students from nearby schools winning competitions in math and science, such as the Intel Competition and e-cybermission. Tuckahoe, Bronxville, Scarsdale, and Yonkers all have organized Math, Science and Robotics clubs. Our children deserve these programs, too.

With rapid computerization and technological innovation, the traditional job pool is shrinking. Job growth is going to come from the STEM area. The explosive growth in space exploration, electric vehicle industry and blockchain is a direct result of the intersection of engineering, programming and mathematics.

We need to prepare our children for this world so they can thrive in it. We want our District to have programs that spark interest at an early stage. We don’t want our children to be embarrassed by the paucity of technology offerings when they are applying to college.

This is not just about learning but also about having fun. Everyone enjoys building, modeling, and creating things. It is also about camaraderie and team effort. Participating as Eastchester Eagles and competing (and besting) other teams will help Eagles soar higher.

We would like to have the District implement programs that will ignite our children’s interest in STEM including:

  1. After-school programming in the elementary, middle and high schools to include:  Robotics, Programming, Forensics, Engineering
  2. Support for student participation in different competitions including: International Math Olympiad, First Lego League, International Physics Olympiad, Robotics Competition
  3. Dedicated space and equipment to support these activities

Let’s make sure our Eagles are prepared to soar into a bright future!
