East Van Neighborhood Fights 100 foot High Industrial Development Project

East Van Neighborhood Fights 100 foot High Industrial Development Project
Why this petition matters

The City of Vancouver is considering a proposal to allow a 100 foot high building with multiple decks (for “gatherings”) to replace a one storey building at 1360 Napier Street at Odlum Drive in East Vancouver. The residents were not even consulted nor informed. Think of that! We found out a week and a half ago when the sign went up and with a deadline of July 21 for “comments”!!
This is a quiet, family oriented neighborhood that houses many seniors and children in the Co-operative Complex and surrounding small houses and an area already strained to the limit with parking problems presented by the businesses located on the West side of the street. The current zoning is for 60 feet in height but the developer is requesting 100 feet be approved. This massive building with a height that dwarfs all of those around it will destroy this neighborhood by adding to parking issues, noise from “gatherings” on their multiple decks and block out any view of mountains and sky for the benefit of those who will work and “gather” there. Many cars from Clark Drive already speed down Odlum Drive to avoid traffic and even police. Imagine 94 more cars added daily to this mix within four blocks! The only winners in this proposal, as usual, are the Developer and The City.
Everything changes but this proposed change will directly impact the well being of numerous residents, young and old, in this area further eroding the unique East Van way of life and once again shows that the City of Vancouver doesn’t care about the “little guy” who actually lives here but only the Developer.
Please help our neighbourhood fight this aggressive intrusion into the lives of quiet, private citizens by a Developer who only sees dollar signs and not human beings.
